Relocation makes city home to largest family of US fly fishing brands

Share

Montrose, Colorado, is now the home to the largest collection of fly fishing brands in North America following the relocation of an iconic fly-tying vice and tools manufacturer.

Renzetti – founded in 1972 – has moved from Florida to join industry titans that include Ross Reels, Abel and Airflo. Several of the original machines used to build its signature vices are now running inside the Mayfly facility.

“Montrose is the fly fishing capital of the USA and we are looking forward to the next chapter in Renzetti’s history,” said Mayfly Director of Marketing, Shelby Rossi. The relocation has been described as an exciting development for the Colorado Outdoors campus which began with the region’s largest public/private partnership in 2017 with the Montrose Urban Renewal Authority and in 2019 with the city’s largest river restoration project.

The move comes after Ross Reels acquired Renzetti in August 2024, consolidating the group’s operations in Montrose. Mayfly Outdoors CEO, Jeff Wagner, said: “We had not originally planned on moving production to Colorado, but a close look at the full operation made it clear as we are seeing increasing costs to aluminium, electricity and running multiple facilities. Having Renzetti’s machines alongside our engineering, quality and anodising teams in Montrose – plus the benefit of enhanced Swiss machining for Ross and Abel – made a compelling case.”
