Konger’s five-year guarantee signals environmental commitment

Share

To demonstrate its commitment to the environment, major Polish tackle supplier Konger offers a five-year warranty on its pilot brands, alongside a pledge to ensure spare parts availability and repair support long after the warranty period has expired.

This decision reflects a simple yet impactful philosophy – take responsibility for the products that bear your name.

President Michal Gosztyla told Angling International that Konger’s stance is not merely a business strategy, but a reflection of the values held dear by its founders, who, like many of their customers, are avid anglers. “You can’t spend time on the water and not care about what’s happening to it,” he said, citing recent industrial pollution events in Poland as a catalyst for its renewed focus on sustainability. “It would be hypocritical to sell fishing gear while ignoring the waste that the industry generates.”

The company’s approach resonates with the European Union’s Right to Repair initiative, which advocates for a shift away from the disposable culture by mandating that businesses provide repairable products with accessible spare parts. “It’s a fair principle,” added Gosztyla. “It’s nice to see regulations aligning with our practices, making it harder for brands to compete solely on the basis of cheap, throwaway items.”

Konger is acutely aware of the waste endemic to the fishing tackle industry, where constant model turnover and limited repairability create a cycle of consumerism that churns out gear before its time. “Anglers should not replace gear simply because the repair process is cumbersome or parts have become obsolete,” said Gosztyla. “By keeping parts available, streamlining our warranty process and resisting the urge to retire products prematurely, we are paving the way for gear that can be repaired and used for a decade or more.”

Leading this eco-conscious charge are Konger’s rods and reels – products where repairability truly counts. The company is also actively working to minimise waste through sustainable packaging solutions and extending the lifecycle of its product lines.

The dialogue around sustainability is evolving, with younger anglers increasingly seeking out eco-friendly products. “While younger customers are asking questions we wouldn’t have heard five years ago, even seasoned anglers express frustration with modern gear that breaks easily. Their desire for durable, fixable gear echoes the principles of sustainability.”

Konger’s philosophy may not maximise shareholder value in the short term, but it is rooted in a deeply personal commitment to preserving the planet for future generations. “Nature is vast and powerful, but so is our appetite for destruction. It’s imperative that we act responsibly. The EU might be seen as naive in its ambitions for a sustainable future, but it represents a crucial hope for our world, and we are dedicated to supporting that vision.”

With these initiatives, Konger is not just influencing the fishing tackle market; it is leading by example, proving that a commitment to sustainability is not just achievable but essential.

Konger will be attending this month’s EFTTEX in Barcelona and using the event to increase its export reach with particular emphasis on western Europe with markets in Germany, France and Scandinavia a priority. It will be showing off its range of tackle that is backed by more than four decades of experience and includes a comprehensive line-up of rods, reels, braided and monofilament lines, hooks, jigheads, lures and accessories.
