Dinsmores, the UK-based company that has been at the forefront of the development of non-toxic lead and shot substitutes, is available for sale.
Owners Nigel and Ian May say their award-winning company presents an opportunity for an investor or industry partner as it is perfectly poised to take advantage of the impending introduction of legislation restricting the use of lead in fishing tackle. Dinsmores has been involved in the manufacture of lead-free substances since lead was banned in the UK in 1987.
Speaking after picking up another award at EFTTEX last month, Nigel May (below, centre right with brother Ian), Dinsmores Managing Director, told Angling International: “We are open to talking to potential new partners or businesses with an interest in the company. If potential suitors want to talk to us, we will listen.
“Manufacturing is a tough old game in the UK. It is not labour intensive, but is machine intensive.”
Despite the challenges, May believes Dinsmores, based in the UK’s Midlands, is poised for growth as environmental regulations are set to take centre-stage later this year. May said: “With legislation imminent, we are at the dawn of a new era and Dinsmores is in a good position to take advantage. We expect to see a big increase in sales.
“There will be plenty of competition as the world dives in when they see the opportunities that present themselves. However, they will be playing catch-up while Dinsmores is in the box seat.”
May added that one of the biggest challenges facing the industry following the introduction of legislation will be effective policing. “There needs to be proper verification and enforcement. Anyone can print non-toxic on the packaging. That will be a problem for the trade. Something needs to be done.
“Denmark has machines that can detect lead. Perhaps there is a solution there.”
May added that Dinsmores enjoyed a successful EFTTEX in Brussels with another award – in the Fly Fishing Accessory category for its non-toxic Stealth Egg Shot – providing the icing on the cake.
“The key for us is that we see all the key people we need to at EFTTEX. It’s not the numbers that are important for us. It is a once a year opportunity to have face-to-face meetings with our customers and distributors from across the world.”
