When Japan’s top lure designers team up with the world’s oldest and most iconic hook brand, the result is groundbreaking.
The combination has delivered top of the class lures in conjunction with transformative innovation in the form of Mustad’s latest inline treble hook system that incorporates one double hook and a single to create a unique configuration.
Mihovil Vudrag, Director of Sales at Mustad EMEA Sport, told Angling International: “Mustad is the first company in Europe to take the significant step of bringing in Japanese design experts – renowned for their mastery in design and engineering – into our lure development.
“As masters of its business, Mustad is differentiating itself by equipping these lures with superior trebles that surpass anything the competition can offer.
“The best trebles on the market have been meticulously designed to provide the perfect balance and action, ensuring maximum efficiency and durability even in aggressive saltwater conditions.

“Other brands have resorted to welding hooks by hand as a cost-cutting-measure that falls short of achieving precision, quality and consistency – it is not possible to ensure all hooks are 100% the same.
“Mustad ensures a level of consistency and craftsmanship that is unmatched, creating a level of perfection that hand-welding cannot replicate.”
Vertebrata Topwater
Following up the Sinking Pencil, Mustad’s Vertebrata Topwater takes to the surface with a strong build and effective presentation. With its inclined floating stance, this lure excels at diving, sliding and walk-the-dog retrieval to grab attention. Bone-shaped ribs spread the Vertebrata Topwater’s centre of gravity and minimise body rolling during walk-the-dog motion, calling in fish from far and deep. The design elements attract fish from a distance, making it excellent for all ability levels and outright dangerous in the hands of a professional. Unique design, modern materials and attention to detail are sure to entice a bite whether you’re fishing in freshwater or saltwater.

Gonta
Gonta’s distinctive lip shape ensures hydrodynamic stability and a steady swimming movement in the water, making it ideal for long-distance casting and covering a large area. The sinking Gonta has a 2x6mm tungsten ball that allows it to quickly descend to the required depth, whilst the floating version has a 1x6mm tungsten ball and a 1x6mm steel ball that allows it to stay on the surface. During a straight retrieve, it has a solid, high-pitch rolling movement, while a snap-pause retrieve has an unpredictable, darting action. This makes it ideal for use along broad coastlines with breaking waves and outlying rocks that serve as a natural habitat for game fish. Once fish come in for the bite, Mustad’s Jaw Lok Inline Trebles lock them in with a hook-set you can count on.

Mezashi Slim Jig
Designed to provide maximum attraction and performance whether you’re pulling game from the depths or casting from the shore. You have a better shot at landing a fish thanks to a pair of light wire slow jigging hooks tied on the front. With its centre of gravity shifted slightly forward of the jig’s centre, this head-side heavy (55:45) slim shape lead jig is made to resist vertical movement against the force of the fishing line. As a part of the Mezashi Series of lures, the Mezashi Slim Jig has Mezashi transparent eyes, which refract light and serve to entice a strike. With five different weights and eight unique patterns to choose from, the Mezashi Slim Jig offers versatile options for any fishing situation. The construction from hard lead alloy makes it resistant to damage while still being portable and simple to operate.
Mirotic Slow Jig
Slow jigging at varying weights and depths is not always consistent. The Mirotic Slow Jig has been crafted with a hydrodynamic shape at multiple weights to meet the demands at appropriate water depths to achieve the desired action. This design produces a sliding falling presentation, where many species strike. For dark, deep water offshore fishing, Mustad has chosen patterns with vivid colours and glow accents. Mustad’s new AlphaPoint Ruthless assist hooks are rigged on both ends.

Baku EGI Lure
Mustad is bringing its expertise in saltwater angling to egi fishing techniques. Patterns have been carefully selected for the Mediterranean squid that are sure to entice an attack. The natural sinking speed and UV tinsel help fool clever squid into grabbing the Baku Squid Jig. To extend casting distance, the Baku jig has an internal sliding weight system that transfers weight as it is cast. The best squid hooks have been built to catch and hold curious squid.
