Mishaps and friendship: how an eco-friendly brand was born

Share

A two decades-long friendship and two painful falls on deck – one resulting in broken ribs – led to the creation of a groundbreaking range of eco-friendly saltwater footwear.

Italian fishing consultant and television presenter Sandro Onofaro (below right) has been integral to the design of the new Strike shoes with his angling pal, Stephen Palmer, CEO of Overland Shoes, a UK-based specialist in the design, sourcing and wholesale of branded footwear.

Onofaro told Angling International: “Stephen and I have fished together in Sardinia, Cuba, Mexico and Florida in many international competitions and started talking about fishing shoes, grip, stability and safety.

“One of the reasons for this was probably because during one season he fell twice. Finding that the market did not offer anything in terms of safety footwear, he started to consider the possibility of producing something himself.”

Onofaro says that Strike has come up with a shoe that never existed before. “It is a milestone that cannot be compared to anything else on the market both from a technical and ethical viewpoint.

“The grip, comfort, safety and sustainability all combine to produce a pair of shoes that are versatile and look great. They are quick drying, light and give anglers a sense of security and comfort in all conditions whether fishing from boat or shore. After having tried them, there is no going back.”

Onofaro is currently working on the creation of a global network of pro-staffers to develop more footwear for all types of conditions and fishing techniques. “We will make new models for the future with different characteristics for every single fishing need in our beautiful sport. Stay tuned – we can promise some great things in the future!”
