Chinese rod OEM: Business recovering after ‘toughest’ year for two decades

Share

Top Chinese OEM rod maker Weihai Hanhigh believes that it is emerging from one of its toughest years for two decades following two successful end of 2024 trade shows.

Qian Gang Wang, owner of the company, revealed to Angling International that this year has been a ‘hard’ one for the business and ‘like the bottom’ of the last 20 years. However, he added that after its appearances at Angling International LIVE and the CGC Weihai EXPO in the space of just a month, feedback from customers has been encouraging and given indications that business is starting to recover slowly.

“It seems that next year could be a little better, “ said Wang. “But we will see.”

Weihai Hanhigh returned to Budapest for the first ever Angling International LIVE show at the end of September and reported strong interest in the company’s new products that were launched especially for anglers in Europe.

Wang said that visitors to its booth at the show left impressed with its new spinning and carp fishing rods and its saltwater slow jigging models alongside those for Egi fishing. “We generated new contacts who we believe we can set up worthwhile cooperations.

“Our aim at the show was to show off our ability to manufacture good quality products that are specifically designed for the European marketplace and we achieved that aim. We are looking to offer our manufacturing services to businesses there. The region is one of the most important ones in the world for Weihai Hanhigh and we work hard to meet the demands of the market.”

Less than a month after attending Angling International LIVE, Wang exhibited at the Weihai CGC Expo, a show based in the heartland of China’s fishing tackle manufacturing industry that attracts more than 900 manufacturers from across the country and globally. In the space of just over 15 years, the event has grown from a base of just 183 exhibitors to become one of the world’s most important industry events.

“The European show is very much a regional gathering where exhibitors tend to be wholesalers and local brands. The CGC Weihai show is a worldwide event that attracts major manufacturers from China,” explained Wang. “We want to achieve the same as we strive to do in Europe, but on a global basis. Our aim is to attracts customers from the rest of the world.”
