Energofish to make major business announcement at Angling International LIVE

One of Europe’s largest suppliers of bait will be announcing a major licencing agreement at Angling International LIVE that it says will become a core business in the years to come.
Tackle supplier Energofish has partnered with Dutch Carp Mesh in a move that has seen production of PVA mesh being carried out at its factory near Budapest alongside its production line making PVA Bombs.
The mesh was previously produced for Energofish at the Dutch Carp Mesh factory in the Netherlands. The move has been hailed by Energofish Managing Director Istvan Pal as a major development for his business.
“In terms of European production and the advantages for Energofish this is an important development. It will become a core business for the company going forward. The PVA mesh is the most important part of the PVA Bomb and having its production here will provide a stable business for Energofish. We can’t wait to tell the industry in Budapest about our plans and discuss the business opportunities that Energofish and Dutch Carp Mesh has to offer.
“We welcome OEM and ODM enquiries and can work with businesses on particular flavours and recipes that they want to develop.”
Pal added that the production facility is already working 24/7 and producing up to 800,000 bombs a year with plans to increase that to three million. “Customers in the past have had to wait up to five months for bomb delivery,” said Pal. “Now we can reduce that to four to six weeks as we have the mesh production unit right next door to our bomb-making facility.
“The use of PVA Bombs is growing all the time. Anglers are becoming lazy and time poor. Ready-made baits are becoming increasingly popular and it is a trend we believe will continue.”
Pal said that Energofish expects to assume control of the PVA mesh business three to four years down the line following an agreement with Dutch Carp Mesh founder and owner René Wehkemp. “I first met René at a trade show in Amsterdam in 2018 and not only have we worked together as Dutch Mesh Carp became a mesh producer for us, but we have formed a firm friendship.
“We started working on this project a year ago and it is great to see it come to fruition and deliver a production solution for us that has made things easier and a lot more flexible.”
Wehkamp has been producing PVA mesh for more than a decade from a facility outside his home in the Netherlands. A non-angler, he got the idea of developing mesh for fishing after a chance meeting with an angler who used a rudimentary mesh while carp fishing. “The idea started from there,” explained Wehkamp. “Dutch Carp Mesh was formed 11 years ago and currently has exports in many countries across Europe, including Ukraine, Poland, the Czech Republic and Holland.
“Many of our clients bought their mesh in China, but after testing our products switched to Dutch Carp Mesh,” added Wehkamp, who has production facilities in Holland and Germany. The company has been working with Energofish for more than six years, supplying it with PVA mesh.
Pal added that the production agreement with Dutch Carp Mesh is good news for European manufacturing. “I believe that the fishing tackle trade needs to bring more production back to Europe. There are so many advantages in doing this, not least quick delivery and added flexibility. It is a major issue for Energofish and our aim to have a 50-50 balance between imports and exports within two years. We are currently standing at 45% of our products made in Europe.”
