How sustainability is at heart of Sakura brand strategy

Share

Since its inception – and notably most recently – French lure brand Sakura has been committed to promoting sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices.

Aware of the impact of the manufacture of its products on aquatic eco-systems, it has made its environmental commitment one of its corporate priorities.

Franck Rosmann, Product Manager at Sakura, told Angling International: “The sustainability of Sakura products are at the heart of the brand’s strategy. From design to use and manufacturing, we are committed to minimising our environmental footprint.

“The materials used – such as phthalate-free, bisphenol-free PVC and lead substitutes – are carefully selected in the manufacture of the lures and terminal tackle for their low impact on the environment and compliance with international standards.”

He added that this year, Sakura is taking a step further by offering new packaging for its SENSIBRAID braided lines. Previously sold in polystyrene and PET boxes, its braids packaged in 150m and 300m will now be offered in spools made entirely of recycled cardboard. “The packaging is also made of cardboard from the same circuit, which allows it to be placed in the sorting bin without any questions being asked,” added Rosmann.

“With cardboard being 100% recyclable, it is ideal for creating eco-responsible, plastic-free packaging.

“We worked for several months to design a quality spool that accepts the constraints of braid storage. After several prototypes, we have succeeded and are able to offer a product that is aesthetically-pleasing, practical and durable.

We would also like to point out that our SENSIBRAID braid range is PFAS-free, which adds a further plus to our environmental approach.”

Responsible fishing is a core value for Sakura, which also encourages the practice of catch-and-release to preserve the population of fish and eco-systems.

“It is clear that Sakura’s environmental commitment is a major issue. Our commitments to associations, the adaptation of our products in favour of sustainable development and our involvement in responsible fishing demonstrate this on a daily basis.

“Your customers can therefore choose Sakura products with a clear conscience and participate in the protection of nature.”
