PENN launch for first ever cordless powered saltwater reel at ICAST

Share

Pure Fishing brand PENN will be introducing the first ever cordless powered reel to hit the saltwater market at next week’s ICAST.

The Fathom Electric is the only one of its kind with an integrated battery, providing anglers with ‘incredible’ torque and power. “With an easy-to-use LED display screen and angler-friendly settings, this reel will be regarded as the best electric reel on the market,” says PENN.

“The electric fishing reel market has seen significant growth in recent years, driven by technological advancements and an increasing demand for reels that help anglers pursue modern fishing techniques that land big fish.

“The Fathom Electric puts PENN at the forefront of reel technology, building on the well-established Fathom series and incorporating the same powerful inner design. The reel adds a powerful electric motor that utilises a 5Ah capacity battery with an integrated battery life indicator on the display screen. The reel delivers exceptional pulling power and speed to handle even the toughest challenges.”

Fitted with a large LED display screen, the Fathom Electric reels are designed with intuitive controls that allow anglers to fully immerse themselves in the thrill of the chase without distraction. Users have the flexibility to tailor their fishing experience through programmable functions that precisely calibrate the reel.

Features include line diameter input in millimetres for accurate line counter readings, an auto-stop for hands-free retrieving and an integrated line counter that provides precise measurements in feet or metres, enhancing accuracy on the water. For added safety, the reel is equipped with a handle kickback mechanism to prevent mishaps if it encounters any obstacles during operation. A spool tension knob eliminates the need for manual spool control, preventing backlashes when the bait hits the bottom.

The PENN Fathom Electric reel is designed for both power and efficiency. It boasts a maximum winding power of 35lb (15.9kg) and can achieve speeds of up to 750 feet per minute (fpm), varying by reel size. Engineered for versatility, the reel is optimised for deep-dropping activities, reaching depths of up to 1,000 feet, and performs exceptionally well in kite fishing and light trolling scenarios.

The Fathom Electric is offered in 30, 50, and 80 sizes and offers anglers several accessories available for separate purchase, including extra batteries, four-bank battery chargers for quick charging on the go, and more.

It will be available in September.
