Grundéns steps up sustainability efforts with recycling partnership

Share

Grundéns, the fishing apparel and footwear producer, has stepped up its sustainability efforts by partnering with Vela, the manufacturer of recyclable paper bags.

The new durable, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified bags will be used to package Grundéns’ complete apparel line and are an improvement on its previous biodegradable packaging.

“Our approach to sustainability is a continuous journey, with incremental steps being taken to help reduce our overall carbon footprint,” said Grundéns VP Marketing Ash Williams.

“The new Vela bags are transparent, so consumers can see the products. By placing these bags in curb-side recycling, consumers can upcycle packaging rather than putting it in the trash.”

The paper source is grown and the bags produced in the same region that Grundéns makes it products, reducing the overall carbon footprint in production and shipping.

An estimated 500 billion plastics bags are used worldwide each year, with only one percent of these being recycled. Many end up in the world’s oceans, where it is estimated there will be be more plastics than fish by 2050. Grundéns is encouraging other brands to eliminate single use plastic bags from their supply chains.
