First sponsor joins Fishing TV’s bluefin tuna adventure

Share

The Tuna Club has become the first business to take up a sponsorship opportunity with Fishing TV and its forthcoming bluefin tuna series, bringing a new premium big-game experience in the UK to an international angling audience.

Based on the banks of the River Fal in Falmouth, in the West of England, The Tuna Club combines luxury riverside accommodation with access to the Atlantic bluefin tuna grounds off the Cornish Coast.

The Fishing TV crew and on-screen talent will be among The Tuna Club’s first guests, filming an introduction to the business and the bluefin tuna fishery The partnership reflects The Tuna Club’s ambition to grow awareness of the fishery internationally while demonstrating the standard of hospitality and fishing experience available in Falmouth.

Shops, restaurants, cafés and traditional Cornish pubs are all within a short walk of the Britons Slip, an ancient property that was a bonded warehouse in the 17 Century and is now luxury accommodation. The business is positioned to offer visiting anglers and corporate guests a complete coastal experience – on and off the water. Its international credibility is enhanced by a local airport and convenient rail links to London.

The venue with its world class fishing is targeted at globetrotting anglers who enjoy high-quality, catch-and-release bluefin fishing, complemented by locally sourced food – cooked by its own chefs – and a tailored hospitality experience.

Guests stay at Britons Slip, the private waterfront property with its own pontoon and slipway, before heading offshore aboard Shamrock, The Tuna Club’s fully equipped and professionally skippered vessel.

Two years in development, The Tuna Club has invested heavily in the vessel, specialist tackle and personnel required to deliver a first-class big-game operation. Experienced skippers Dean Whitewood and Chris Goddard lead the on-water programme, while Robin and Rebecca Turner – both private chefs – will showcase local produce as part of the guest experience.

Robin Turner brings long-standing bluefin experience to the operation, having begun experimenting with the rod-and-line fishery in 2004. His early work included refitting a boat, sourcing premium rods and reels and assembling an expert team that includes a marine biologist, skipper and crew. “The UK offers perhaps the best bluefin tuna fishery in the world and the facilities offered by The Tuna Club promise to deliver a fishing experience of a lifetime,” he says.

“We are delighted to link up with Fishing TV to showcase what is truly a ‘Hemingway-esque’ experience for the discerning angler. We look forward to working with everyone to build worldwide interest in big game fishing and to entertain global clients to the highest level.”

“We’re delighted to have The Tuna Club on board as our Destination Partner for the first Return of the Giants expedition,” said Fishing TV CEO Ed Burgass. “What Robin and the team have created in Falmouth is a fantastic set-up – the house, the boat, the harbour and the whole experience give us a brilliant base from which to start the series.

“One of the things we really want to demonstrate with Return of the Giants is that the bluefin fishery developing around Britain and northern Europe is now comparable with some of the great big-game fishing destinations anywhere in the world. Starting at The Tuna Club gives us an opportunity to showcase that properly – not simply the extraordinary fish, but the whole experience surrounding the fishery.

“The Tuna Club is also a good example of how we want partners to become part of Return of the Giants. Rather than simply putting logos around a programme, we can integrate the right businesses naturally into the story. The audience will see our anglers staying at the house, preparing for the expedition and heading to sea aboard Shamrock, so The Tuna Club becomes part of the Falmouth story itself. We’re now talking to potential partners across tackle, marine, technology, vehicles, clothing, safety and other adventure/outdoor categories about doing the same thing across the wider series.”
