Sakura reveals its best topwater lures for right now

Share

Whether at sea or in freshwater, surface fishing with topwater lures is the most exciting sport there is. Sakura offers you its top four.

OPPOP
What lure better symbolises surface fishing for predators than a popper? The Oppop is the new Sakura popper created for freshwater. Highly effective and versatile thanks to a wide range of colours, Sakura says it wanted it to be able to perform as a traditional popping as well as walking-the-dog lure. Tanguy Marlin, Sakura’s lure designer, has succeeded in doing just that and it is offering your customers a lure that’s very easy to use and will appeal to all types of predators. “We’ve tested it in a wide range of conditions on European waters and this popper has been an unqualified success. Its effectiveness and robustness have been widely confirmed.” Available in two sizes: 45mm (3.8g) and 58mm (7g).

NOTOBUG
Developed in 2014, the Notobug is still one of the bestsellers in the Sakura range. Made from high-density polyurethane foam, the Notobug is an insect imitation that is pleasant to use when looking for chub, trout or largemouth bass – all three are particularly fond of this kind of critter. Note that while the Notobug 30F is easy to cast with a spinning rod, the 22F version can easily be used with a fly rod for even more sensations. Available in two sizes: 22mm (1.4g) and 30mm (3.5g).

BUBBLE FROG
When summer comes, surface fishing with frogs is one of the most exciting things you can do. But frogs come in all shapes and sizes and that’s why Sakura says it has developed this very special frog. The Bubble Frog is hollow, like most lures of this type, but has a rotating PVC tail. Tanguy Marlin has adapted this system so that the lure can ‘plop’ on retrieve, which is a real turn-on for predators. Available in 70mm (19.8g).

MISTER JOE
Developed in collaboration with famous sea bass angler Eric Le Guyader many years ago, Mister Joe stickbaits are still in great demand throughout Europe for bass and all kinds of predators. This new version, redesigned in 2024, brings a modernised exterior design and lead-free internal construction to meet environmental regulations. Of course, this sinking stickbait retains its legendary swimming action and behaviour. It’s a must-have lure on all the world’s seas. It’s also an excellent lure for freshwater tropical fish like aimara and peacock bass, as well as asp and pike. Available in 80mm (12.5g), 105mm (23g) and 120mm (35g).

All four Sakura lures are made without lead to respect the environment.
