Omnia Fishing blames system costs for closure

Omnia Fishing – the first e-commerce store that allowed anglers to buy gear for specific waters – is shutting down at the end of the month.
The US business has announced that its app and website will go dark at the end of the month and that its store has closed and stopped taking orders as of today. Orders already within the system will be shipped through its fulfilment partner.
Announcing the decision, the company said: “We built Omnia so that where you fish would determine what to buy to be successful on the water. So many of you contributed in many ways to get that working. Unfortunately, the costs associated with managing this powerful system prevented us from keeping it going.
“Thorne Brothers has been our fulfilment partner and this affects it as negatively as our customers. It picked, packed and shipped the tackle through Omnia for the last year. It had no part in the decision to close and no bearing on whether Omnia maintained the financial footing to stay open.
“The company is a separate business and is still open. If you shopped through Omnia because of the selection, customers can buy direct from Thorne Brothers.
“Thank you for fishing with us. Eight years of your suggestions, reports, loyalty and fish stories taught us more about this sport than we expected to learn and we are grateful for that.”
