Cultura Piscandi used ICAST 2026 to officially launch its flagship Leech Eyewear brand into the North American market, signalling the next phase of its international expansion.
Although its Headbanger Lures brand has already established a strong presence in the US, the company says the real story behind its decision to exhibit at the world’s largest recreational fishing trade show was the North American debut of Leech, which is already one of Europe’s largest specialist eyewear brands for anglers.
“At this stage, Leech Eyewear is actually our largest brand overall,” said Cultura Piscandi CEO Stefan Svahn. “ICAST gave us the perfect opportunity to introduce it properly to retailers and distributors across North America.”

“Unlike many tackle products, premium fishing eyewear benefits from a hands-on sales approach, allowing buyers to experience lens performance, comfort and build quality before making purchasing decisions.”
The Orlando show also provided an opportunity for Cultura Piscandi to present itself as a unified group, bringing together Leech Eyewear, Headbanger Lures and the recently acquired Zalt brand under one roof.
While Leech was the headline launch, Headbanger continues to drive strong momentum in North America, with Svahn attributing the brand’s success to its patented lure design. “The unique Headbanger head creates an unpredictable swimming action that fish simply haven’t seen before,” he said. “That gives anglers something genuinely different, whether they are fishing soft, hard or hybrid lures.”

He added that the combination of innovation, ease of use and proven fish-catching performance has enabled the brand to establish itself in one of the world’s most competitive lure markets.
Despite being a Swedish company, Cultura Piscandi has so far focused on promoting the individual identities and performance of its brands rather than emphasising their Scandinavian origins. However, that could change as the business expands.
“Sweden has a long tradition of fishing innovation and product development for demanding conditions,” Svahn explained. “We are discussing how our Scandinavian heritage could become a stronger part of the Cultura Piscandi story as we continue to grow internationally.”

The company views North America as a strategic market, not only because of its size, but also because of the opportunities it creates for product development. “The US and European markets inspire each other. Fishing techniques, ideas and product categories often move between continents, while feedback from different fisheries helps us develop better products for anglers everywhere.”
ICAST also served as a platform to strengthen relationships with existing retail partners while identifying new distributors across the continent. However, Svahn said the exhibition’s success would ultimately be judged on commercial performance rather than exposure alone. “We have one very clear measure,” he said. “If the sales generated as a result of ICAST equal or exceed the total cost of attending, then the investment has been worthwhile.”
Although the company recognises the long-term branding benefits of exhibiting, it relies heavily on digital marketing, ambassadors and direct consumer engagement to build awareness, meaning trade shows must also deliver measurable business opportunities.
Alongside its North American ambitions, Cultura Piscandi is preparing for further expansion of Zalt following its acquisition of the iconic Swedish lure brand.
The company expects significant growth for Zalt in 2027 and is evaluating market-by-market distribution strategies across Europe, using a combination of direct sales, distributors and sales agents depending on local conditions.
“Zalt has received an incredibly warm welcome since joining Cultura Piscandi,” said Svahn. ‘It’s a brand with remarkable heritage and exceptional credibility among pike anglers.”
The company is now seeking additional distribution partners for all three of its brands as it continues to expand internationally.
“If our products would strengthen a distributor’s portfolio, we’d be very interested in having that conversation,” Svahn added.
