Fly tools specialist targets growth with higher-end services

Itzel Fishing – a well established maker of tools and accessories for the fly fishing industry – is ready to embark on a clear new strategy.

The Pakistan-based company is positioning itself firmly in the premium segment, targeting partners in the USA, Canada, the UK and Scandinavia who demand precision, consistency and craftsmanship in their fly tying tools. Its CEO, Zubair Ali, told Angling International that it is looking to build meaningful, long-term partnerships with established brands and distributors, rather than chase short-term retail wins.

Ali added that recent production milestones underline Itzel’s ability to achieve its aims. A recently completed 6,000-unit run demonstrates not only scale, but the ability to maintain tight tolerances and consistent quality across volume – an essential requirement for serious OEM partners.

“Itzel Fishing is deliberately moving away from the traditional high-volume, low-quality manufacturing model that has long defined parts of the sector. Instead, the focus is on high-precision tools engineered from Japanese 420 and 440C stainless steel, designed to meet the expectations of professional-tier brands. The aim is simple: produce tools that perform flawlessly and endure,” explained Ali.

From its base in Sialkot, Pakistan, Ali says the company blends established craftsmanship with modern precision engineering. “Our manufacturing philosophy is rooted in detail.  Each tool is hand-finished to ensure alignment, balance and cutting performance, reinforcing a production ethos that prioritises longevity over disposability,” he explained.

The product range reflects that positioning. Itzel specialises in fly tying vises, scissors, ceramic-tip bobbins, heavy-duty nippers and ergonomic forceps – all engineered for accuracy and durability. Stand-out performers include the Master Series of tungsten carbide scissors and the Aero-Grade fly tying vises, both of which have gained traction in export markets.

Material choice is central to the brand’s identity. By working exclusively with premium Japanese steels, Itzel ensures corrosion resistance and edge retention, even in demanding saltwater environments. “The result is a tool that maintains its performance over time – something increasingly valued in a market saturated with short-life alternatives,” said Ali.

For potential partners, the Itzel Fishing proposition combines reliability with flexibility. The company offers private label (OEM) manufacturing supported by high-end laser engraving, allowing brands to deliver premium-quality tools under their own identity. The appeal lies in achieving ‘large brand quality’ with direct-from-manufacturer efficiency.

Ali added: “The feedback we receive from distributors reinforces our positioning. Balance, feel and finish are consistently highlighted, while one partner reported a zero per cent return rate – an outcome attributed to our stringent quality control processes at every stage of production.”

Looking ahead, Itzel Fishing is expanding its capacity to accommodate larger bulk orders without compromising its hallmark hand-crafted finish. “The goal is not simply to grow,” said Ali. “We aim to scale responsibly – retaining the precision and the attention to detail that defines us.

“In a category where price competition often drives decision-making, we are taking a different route. The company is focused on durability, performance and partnership – backing the belief that for serious anglers, a tool should be an investment, not a disposable item.”
