SERT Fishing brand Sakura decided that it wanted to offer a technical lure that was easy to use and capable of catching fish in both sea and freshwater. Enter the BULWIP.
Minnows or jerkbaits are indispensable lures for anglers seeking to simulate the behaviour of a wounded or fleeing fish, creating ideal conditions for triggering a predator’s attack.
After several generations of minnows in the Sakura range, its designer Tanguy Marlin has succeeded in creating the BULWIP. Its meticulous design, realistic action and efficiency make it a preferred choice for experienced and novice anglers alike.
“Our aim was to create a high quality jerkbait that is easy to use by novice anglers, but technical enough to satisfy the more experienced,” explained Marlin.
“Of course, we had to overcome the major shortcoming of these often thin and light lures – the difficulty of casting them long distances, even in windy conditions.”
After several prototypes, Marlin finally succeeded. Fitted with a small, profiled lip and equipped with a magnetic internal mass transfer system, the internal thrust propels the BULWIP like a missile – even into the wind!
“What’s more, the BULWIP’s dimensions and tapered shape, which give it remarkable aerodynamics, are very similar to those of the favourite prey of bass and freshwater predators.
“It’s essential to match the lure to the size and colour of the local forage fish to maximise the chances of success. That’s why we’ve developed two sizes (110 mm and 130 mm) and two distinct colour ranges.
“One is for freshwater and one for sea fishing. Of course, since fishing isn’t an exact science, both ‘sea’ and ‘freshwater’ colours can work very well in either environment.”

In action, the BULWIP Minnow will produce a fast, fluid rolling action that emits strong vibrations perceptible in fast-flowing water. In linear animation and by simply alternating retrieve speed, its signals vary in intensity and become irresistible.
