How Shimano has made the electric reel fishing more accessible

Tackle giant Shimano has just made offshore fishing with electric reels that much more affordable for anglers.
The Japanese tackle supplier believes that one of the drawbacks in the spread of the reel has been the cost. To help overcome this, it has introduced a new entry-level series of its large electric reels – the Shimano Plays 3000 and Plays 4000 – which its says combines impressive performance with an affordable price.

Both have upgraded motors with the Plays 3000 featuring a power-tuned Muteki motor that delivers 6.5kg of continuous winding force – enough for handling stubborn deep sea targets. The 4000 model is equipped with a motor offering 10kg to tackle species like tuna and mackerel.
Both reels are built with the famed HAGANE body, which offers durability and rigidity under a high load, and the carbon washer drag system for a smooth and heat-resistant performance.
The Plays 3000 includes Shimano’s Fire Mach System which places S A-RB ball bearings around the spool for smoother rotation and faster line deployment, similar to the Super Free Spool found on smaller baitcasting reels. The feature boosts efficiency in bait fishing, allowing anglers to drop the rig quickly and retrieve with ease.
