Leading Japanese tackle supplier partners for brand growth

A leading Japanese fishing tackle manufacturer is poised for expansion after agreeing a strategic partnership with a major investment firm.
Following an increase in sales across its two main markets of Japan and the US, Megabass has partnered with L Catterton, a US-based multi-national private equity business, to help drive its growth. A spokesman for Megabass said: “Consumer expenditure on fishing gear has been on an uptick and is expected to continue growing as casual anglers increasingly seek to become more proficient and purchase high quality products to aid their quest.
“This trend is providing tradewinds for Megabass, given the brand’s suite of stellar fishing lures, baits and rods. Bearing testament to the rising and sustained demand for Megabass products across geographies, its total revenue has demonstrated strong growth over the years with contributions from overseas markets also increasing.”

Moving forward, Megabass and L Catterton will work closely to drive further growth for Megabass amid consumers’ greater propensity to spend on premium fishing gear in its key markets. Their combined focus will initially be on ramping up production capacity and strategically expanding its distribution network.
Founded in 1986 by acclaimed bass angler, Yuki Ito, Megabass is a multi-award winner and harnesses traditional craftmanship and cutting-edge technology to manufacture its products. Accordingly, it has cultivated a loyal following among anglers – first in Japan – and now internationally, especially in the US where it entered the market in the 2000’s. Its brand has been endorsed by tournament anglers who have a track record of winning the Bassmaster Classic and other top level competitions.
