The Mid-America Rod Company, the Arkansas-based maker of Virtus Rods, is the latest addition to the GSM Outdoors group of brands. GSM recently moved into the rod market with the acquisition of Phenix Rods.
“When we decided to enter the rod category, we had a clear vision of offering the highest quality products at the best possible price,” said Crispin Powley, GSM Senior VP of Fishing.
“We realised Mid-America Rods’ ability to help us attain our goals; specifically, its history and ability to produce incredible fishing rods that are 100% made in the USA.”
Mid-America, founded in 1976, also produces OEM rods for a number of other companies.
“Our goal, which you’ll see come to market soon, is a ‘Made in the USA’ series of Phenix Rods that will utilise Phenix’s signature technology combined with decades of experienced craftsmanship and manufacturing from Mid-America,” added Powley. “We also look forward to continuing its longstanding OEM relationships and partnerships.”
GSM, which in February unveiled its new Frog Factory lure brand, acquired Phenix Rods in December and the Bucca portfolio of brands in March. It now has more than 40 fishing and hunting brands.
