Rapala takes on Okuma distribution in Thailand

Rapala VMC and Okuma continue to expand their partnership in world markets. Having already agreed deals in Brazil, Paraguay and Korea this year, Rapala will now handle Okuma distribution in Thailand.

After signing the contract with Okuma owner Charles Chang (right) Rapala CEO Lars Ollberg (left) said: “The partnership with Okuma is strengthening every year and we are working to expand it still further in line with the common goals of each company.

“Okuma has had success in Thailand for many years and we believe that with the professionalism and marketing skills of our Thai colleagues we can take Okuma sales to the next level.

“I’m more than confident we will make Okuma a shining star in the south east Asian sky. This will be a good example of success breeding success. The product selection is just right. Our mantra of ‘winning in the stores – together’ will secure success and further bolster our long-term partnership with Okuma.”

Ollberg also thanked Enrico Ravenni, the head of Rapala VMC APAC, and Fred Goh, Director of Product Development APAC, for their part in working with Chang to secure the agreement.

“Rapala’s Thailand branch has been established for 15 years,” Ravenni told Angling International. “It has an experienced team of seven people focused on sales and marketing who have excellent knowledge of products, distribution and customer service, dealing with around 200 shops.

“Okuma is a well known brand in Thailand and we are driven to grow the business there.”

Ollberg added that he expected the following Okuma products to be star performers in Thailand:

CAVALLA: This reel (pictured above) is suitable not only for saltwater fishing, but for giant catfish in leisure ponds, which is a big market;

Ceymar HD: There are many leisure ponds for barramundi fishing and freshwater dam sport for local species where this spinning reel will shine;

Ceymar ODT & HAKAI: Giant Snakehead and Hampala needs accuracy and speed. The Ceymar ODT & HAKAI baitcasting reels are exactly what anglers are looking for.
