Visitors to this weekend’s Saltwater Fishing Expo in Edison, New Jersey will get to see the official launch of Daiwa’s new Blackline Surf and Blackline Trolling/Mojo striper series of rods.
The new 10-model line-up includes four rods for trolling/mojo techniques, and six surf spinning rods designed with influence from leading East Coast surf anglers.
The surf rod line-up includes a 9ft medium power, extra-fast action model (BL902MXS) with Daiwa’s MEGATOP tip for extra bite sensitivity.
Bob Hryszko of Grumpy’s Tackle in Seaside, New Jersey, who helped develop the series, said the rods are primarily designed for surfcasting on open sandy beaches ‘where you can walk up and down and cast thousands of times without tiring yourself out.’
“It’s an ideal rod for when you don’t have to reach halfway to Spain with your casts, plus it’s also perfect for use when fishing waist-deep water,” he added.
The one-piece Blackline boat rods include both 6ft 6in and 7ft medium-heavy (rated for 30 to 80lb braid) and heavy power (for 50 to 100lb braid) models for setting up an inside/outside trolling pattern. They are designed for mojo rig set-ups, pulling plugs, live-lining bunker and eels, along with working big plastic swim jigs along sandy beaches.
Daiwa Field Marketing Specialist Chris Martin says: “These trolling rods offer plenty of backbone with the right amount of tip for multi-situational use, plus the carbon slick and shrink rubber foregrip offers not only modern aesthetics but also durability and comfort.”
