Digital selling giant TEMU has responded to concerns from the fishing tackle industry regarding rogue dealers infringing Intellectual Property (IP) rights.
Following reports in the last two issues of Angling International regarding these concerns, TEMU has moved to reassure companies within the industry that it has robust and effective IP protections in place for its vendors.
Speaking exclusively to Angling International, a TEMU spokesperson said: “We treat business growth and intellectual property protection as equally important and we have built in practical systems to help us spot and deal with potential issues quickly and responsibly.
“TEMU safeguards IP through a combination of automated detection systems and manual review. Protecting brands is a priority and we continue to invest significantly in tools and specialist teams to identify and remove infringing listings.
“Proactive takedowns carried out by TEMU outnumber brand-submitted reports by more than 200-1, and over 99% of IP-related requests are resolved within three working days, with the majority addressed within 24 hours.”

The spokesperson added that TEMU requires its sellers on the platform to comply with all applicable local laws and regulations in markets where they operate, including on product safety, consumer protection and customs requirements.
“Sellers that fail to meet these obligations are subject to enforcement action, including removal from the platform.”
In April 2024, TEMU introduced its Brand Guardian initiative, which it says sits at the heart of its wider commitment to strengthening IP protection across the platform. More than 1,500 brands currently work with the digital seller through pro-active monitoring and regular enforcement reporting to support faster and more targeted action.
“Our focus is on building a sustainable, compliant and trusted platform that helps customers access quality products at affordable prices while enabling local sellers across Europe to grow their businesses and reach new markets.”
TEMU added that companies wishing to report infringements can do so through its dedicated IP Portal which is dedicated to submitting takedown notices.
TEMU said: “This user-friendly platform streamlines the process by systematically collecting complaints to ensure efficient processing. Additionally, the portal helps identify and track repeat infringers, facilitating more effective action against recurring violations.”
