Veteran rod manufacturer cautiously optimistic for next 12 months

Despite operating in an international business environment beset by a multitude of challenges, one of China’s largest suppliers of rods is ‘cautiously’ optimistic about trading in the next 12 months.
Qian Gang Wang (above), owner of Weihai Hanhigh, which has customers across the globe, believes that the worldwide economic crisis and the intransigent policies of the main players on the international stage will not change any time soon.
However, he told Angling International: “After being in this situation for so many years, the market is gradually getting used to the tough and ever-changing environment and working within it.
“It is that attitude of getting on with it that makes me cautiously optimistic about the future.”
It is a mood that has been underlined by Wang’s recent experiences at the EFTTEX show in Europe and the CGC Weihai event. “Both shows were busy and delivered meaningful contacts that may result in new customers,” said Wang. “The Chinese show is much bigger than EFTTEX with many more booths, visitors and products on display.
“Both are good windows for Weihai Hanhigh to show the market our quality and ability to deliver innovations. It is also a platform for us to talk to friends and customers about market trends and the needs of anglers.”
Although visitor numbers were down as EFTTEX returned following a four-year break, Wang said he spoke to enough interested visitors and believes that some of them will be potential customers.
“We showed off some of our new spinning rods, ultra-light models, long casting carp examples and rods for Aji, Egi and jigging. They were well received at both events.”
Wang added that he has penciled in an appearance at EFTTEX in Barcelona next year and welcomed a return to its traditional timing in June.
