Japanese tackle powerhouse Shimano has released its newly revamped version of the flagship spinning reel, the Stella SW.
Japan Fishing Tackle News says that the first model – the 14000XG – is available now and features an improved X Tough Drag System, the XX Tough Drag System. By sandwiching larger carbon drag washers, it provides even more durability. The Heatsink Drag works in conjunction to reduce drag power loss due to heat by 30%.
This improvement is available only on larger models and is not included on the 8000 size.
One of the most surprising updates on the Stella SW is said to be the addition of the Infinity Loop system, previously used on smaller Stella reels. Shimano has replaced the traditional cross-wrap method with this ultra dense winding system, reducing line release resistance.

The spool oscillates at two speeds – slow when it moves downwards and faster when it rises, which is closer to the cross-wrap tempo.
It also features a revised version of the AR-C Spool, which further improve its shape to minimise line snags and reduce friction during casting.
Shimano’s waterproofing technologies – X Protect and X Shield – are integrated to protect areas like the drive gear, body and spool joints, drag knob and line roller.
The 8000 and 8000XG were launched in June. The 8000 has long been a favourite for offshore and onshore anglers thanks to its versatility and is now unveiled in this highly sought-after size in the Stella SW line-up.
Japan Fishing Tackle News reports that the 8000HG is expected to be released next month with the 8000XG/PG models arriving in August. Other versions, including the 6000 and 18000 have yet to be announced.
