Fishing fastest growing category at Australia’s BCF

Fishing was the fastest growing category in the first half of the financial year at Australian outdoor retailer BCF (Boating,Camping, Fishing).

The brand – owned by the Super Retail Group – enjoyed record sales of $483.7m, up 8.1% on the previous comparable period ($447.6m) during a half when it opened five new stores to take its portfolio to 162. It is looking to open another two in the second half.

Growth in the fishing category was driven by higher sales in consumables – lures and tackle. BCF’s online sales reached $61m and represented 12% of the total business, with Click & Collect accounting for 51% of online sales.

On a group-wide basis, Super Retail Group reported 3.2% increase in sales to 2,019.9m compared to the previous comparable 26 weeks of trading (1,958.2m) – a record-breaking performance.
