Grundéns creates new benchmark in wader comfort and practicality

Share

Curtis Graves, Director of Product Design, describes how the apparel maker has rethought how a wader should be built.

What makes the Boundary Stockingfoot Wader special?
Grundéns has rethought how a wader should be built. We have removed seams in the usual high-wear areas and taken inspiration from how a climbing harness is built to create the most comfortable suspender system on the market. We have also incorporated a dual density, anatomically shaped neoprene stockingfoot, constructed with two titanium coating layers that reflect body heat back to the feet for comfort in cold water.

What other features will make anglers want to buy?
The body-mapped GORE-TEX Pro Wader laminate comprises four layers in the lower body for abrasion resistance and three layers in the upper body for breathability. The neoprene booties use two layers of Titanium Alpha to increase heat retention of up to 40% back to the body, while two fleece-lined chest hand-warmer pockets offer further protection against the cold. The YKK Aquaseal waterproof front zipper is submersible and the double-weave stretch woven gravel guards stay secure to the boot while wading, removing the need for a boot hook. The harnesses are fully customisable to ensure a comfortable fit and include an integrated D-Ring net holder. There are two drop-in, vertical-access chest storage pockets designed for two fly boxes and oversized tippet spools.

And the price?
The aim is to offer excellent value for money in the premium wading segment. MSRP for the Boundary Zip Stockingfoot wader is $899.99 USD or €1090 EUR. MSRP for the Boundary Stockingfoot wader is $599.99 USD or €899 EUR.

Why did Grundéns feel the time was right for this launch?
Waders were the most requested product from our retailers that were not a part of our Sportfishing collection. We opened a number of shops with our footwear and Gore-Tex outerwear styles, and after seeing success with those products, we began to hear consistent feedback that a Gore-Tex wader from Grundéns would fill a slot on the retail wader wall that was both needed and desired by the angler.

So what are Grundéns plans for 2024?
We will continue to develop and deliver gear that protects fishermen, whether they are in the North Sea, the Bering Sea, fly fishing on Speyside or catching pike in Sweden. The company has a clear focus, strategy and the right team in place to help tackle retailers grow the apparel and footwear sector in their markets.
