Fishing TV sponsor catches monster bluefin tuna

Share

The first company to sign up as a sponsor with Fishing TV and its forthcoming series one of the most exciting angling phenomenon’s to hit UK waters for years has celebrated its association with the Return of the Giants documentary in style.

Skippers of the Tuna Club’s boat, Shamrock – based on the banks on the River Fal in Falmouth, Cornwall – finished runners-up in the recent UK Bluefin Tuna Championships with Dean Whitewood crowning its success by catching the biggest fish of the tournament – a monster measuring 86” and weighing just under 400lb.

The Tuna Club opened for business this month and offers visitors to the UK’s ‘Riviera’ luxury riverside accommodation and access to the Atlantic bluefin tuna grounds off the Cornish coast via a purpose-built vessel crewed by experienced skippers Whitewood and Chris Goddard.

The Fishing TV crew will be among the first guests of the Tuna Club while they film an introduction to the business and the bluefin tuna fishery. “Having two skippers of the calibre of Dean and Chris underlines the quality of the service offered by the business,” said Robin Turner, one of the two full-time chefs at the accommodation and a bluefin tuna expert who began experimenting with the rod and line fishery in 2004.

“They offer guests the opportunity to catch some of the best bluefin tuna in the UK for over two decades. Their success in the recent world championships is an example of that ability and fits perfectly with the high quality service that incudes the best boat, crew and fishing alongside a quality location and accommodation.

“Catching bluefin tuna is not easy and requires a skill level that includes a professional at the helm and on the deck. Dean’s success at the UK Bluefin Tuna Championships is testament to that.”
