Rec fishing and boating industries sign ‘momentous’ collaboration

Share

The body that represents the fishing tackle industry in Australia has signed what has been described as a ‘momentous’ collaboration with its counterpart in the boating sector.

The Australian Fishing Trade Association (AFTA) and the Boating Industry Association (BIA) will work closely together for the ‘mutual benefit’ of the combined membership.

AFTA President Michael Starkey said that there were significant opportunities to work together in many areas, including research, data and events while also strengthening the advocacy work of both.

“There are great prospects to collaborate on boat and fishing shows across Australia and to explore opportunities for future events where we work together.”

The agreement also covers cooperating in data, communications, marketing, advertising, business systems, revenue streams, advocacy and support for boat-based fishing.

BIA CEO Andrew Fielding, said it was ‘momentous’ agreement that recognises the importance of boat-based fishing in Australia.

“We have worked together informally over recent years in the area of advocacy to government and we already have a foundation of good collaboration with AFTA. Now we can take that to another level for the benefit of our members and the public.”

BIA and AFTA represent a combined contribution to the Australian economy of $21 billion in annual industry turnover and support for 135,000 jobs.
