One of the world’s oldest fishing line producers celebrated its return to Europe’s premier fishing tackle trade show with an award in the first-ever Angling International LIVE Product Showcase.
Cortland Line Company – founded in New York in 1915 – won the fly line accolade for the Headwater at the show in Budapest. The business was visiting the show in a continuing bid to attract new distributors from Europe and according to International Sales Director, Simon Jefferies (pictured left with Angling International owner Rob Carter), it gained a number of good contacts that he hoped would develop into orders in 2025.
He said: “We are always looking for new partners in Europe so it is vital that we have a trade show that works for all. Although the numbers were a little light in Budapest, we met with some very professional buyers.”
Jefferies added that Cortland is closing a year that saw sales increase slightly on the previous year – pleasing given the current tough climate. “We are looking forward to increasing business again in 2025 and pre-season orders are looking very healthy.”

HEADWATER
Designed for accurate, subtle presentations on small streams and spring creeks, the Headland is true to line weight and has a short body and front taper to help load rods up close. It also features a supple broad core that remains memory-free when stored on small arbor reels. A mute olive green colour eliminates line flash and allows for a healthy approach in gin-clear water.
