Fishing tackle giant, Daiwa, will be unveiling the result of a special project at this weekend’s Fishing Festival in Japan.
In a collaboration with the Akashira Fisheries Cooperative Association, the tackle giant has developed a cooler box made of recycled plastic baskets.

The disused baskets, which have been used by Akashira for many years, were collected, washed, crushed and made into pellets (above) to be reused as recycled material. “It was then transformed into cooler boxes with the finished items creating a circular flow back into the fishing industry,” said Daiwa.
“We aim to create a future where people can enjoy sports while coexisting with nature,” added the Globeride fishing brand. “We will continue to promote co-creation with local partners through the adoption of materials with low environmental impact and recycling-orientated manufacturing.
“We will not only focus on the local recycling model, but also continue to develop new models for utilising waste plastic and take on initiatives that lead to the conservation of the marine environment.
Alongside the show in Yokohama, which opens its doors on Friday, the coolbox will be on display at the Fishing Show Osaka, which takes place on February 7 and 8.
