Is Europe ready for the smartest reel ever built?
Visitors to EFTTEX will get their chance to deliver their verdict when US tackle maker KastKing makes its debut at the European show in Brussels.
As reported in last month’s Angling International, KastKing is a brand in a hurry to establish itself in the European market and will be bringing the jewel in its crown to the show alongside other items that have established it as one of North America’s top and most progressive tackle manufacturers.
Rex Nelson, KastKing’s Product Development Specialist, said: “Fishing technology and electronics have come a long way in recent years, but until now reels have not kept pace or matched the ‘wow factor’ of the latest sonar or fishing methods. However, the iReel does that and more. It is unequivocally the smartest reel on the planet.”

It measures a variety of casting elements in real time, including distance, retrieve speed and cadence. This information is shared with the angler via a Bluetooth connection to a smartphone, KastKing’s Fish IQ Smart Fishing Sunglasses or Bluetooth capable earbuds. “It’s what we call our Smart Fishing Reel Ecosystem and it takes everything from old school pattern fishing to new school live sonar to levels that are unattainable with other reels,” says Nelson.
At 1.5 inches (39mm) in height and weighing just 7oz, it is compact in size, but the 18lb of stopping power in the carbon drag system means it packs plenty of punch and the 7.2:1 gear ratio makes it ideal for just about any method that catches fish.

Stand-out features:
Also, on display at EFTTEX will be other KastKing favourites:

KastKing Mg-Ti Elite
The world’s first baitcast reel with a titanium spool and shaft, it weighs just 7g and offers the castability of a wide range of lures from 0.05 oz to 1.0 oz. Included is KastKing’s new Halo Vortex Magnetic brake. The HVB is a self adaptive magnetic system that delivers braking at the start of the cast to prevent backlash while automatically reducing braking force during the mid-to-late stages of the cast to ensure optimal casting distances.
Additional features include:

TriPolymer Advanced Monofilament
Nelson says that Tripolymer sets a new standard in fishing lines by using a proprietary tri-extrusion process. He explains: “Three types of nylon are incorporated into one revolutionary new line – not copolymer, nor fluorocarbon. KastKing Tripolymer Advanced Monofilament is the best of both.
“Although fluorocarbon lines are great fishing lines, we were looking for alternatives. The limited supply and high cost associated with the resins used to make fluorocarbon translates into higher prices for anglers. We set out to make a fishing line that had many of the same benefits that fluorocarbon has to offer, yet at a much better price point.
“By combining three different nylon resins together into one monofilament line, a truly unique fishing line is created. As all three are in the same chemical family, they blend perfectly during the manufacturing process. However, each kind has its own unique attributes that make the end result a truly amazing fishing line.”
The line offers exceptional smoothness not found in traditional monofilament lines. The smoother surface reduces friction in the rod guides, allowing you to cast further. Coupled with lower memory, the result is greater casting distances and fewer issues like line twist or backlashes. Precision wound spools further reduce line memory over standard mono lines.
Nelson added: “With a stretch factor that is approximately 30% lower than traditional monofilament, KastKing’s TriPolymer Advanced Monofilament allows you to feel even the slightest bites resulting in more immediate hook sets and fewer lost fish.”
The line is offered in tests from 4lb through 30lb in 300-yard spools and 8lb through 100lb in 1/4lb spools. Available in three colours – Yellow, Ice Clear and Max Green.

Royale Legend Pro Spinning Combo
KastKing says that this combo ‘sets the trend’ with innovation. High strength, yet light, the carbon fibre construction cuts down on weight, while providing unmatched strength.
The spinning reel, with up to 25lbs of drag via the Triple Carbon Fibre Drag, ensures anglers can handle the catch of a lifetime, says KastKing. A 10+1 MaxiDur ball bearing system is designed for ‘super smooth’ and reliable performance in diverse applications.
The rod features Fuji Fazlite K-Frame guides and KastKing’s nano high modulus graphite rod blanks for strength and sensitivity.
Available in 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000 reel sizes and several rod lengths and weight configurations.
