A unlikely collab featuring one of the world’s greatest hip hop and R&B artists, Nike and a Colorado reel maker has come together to celebrate the release of a new line of ‘fly fishing-inspired urban wear’.
Superstar Canadian rapper Drake – a fly fishing enthusiast – has been behind the launch of the NOCTA range of everything from khaki wading pants to jackets, vests and hats with bright orange sunshields. They were unveiled as part of the three-day product launch in swanky Manhattan, New York. NOCTA is a sub range of Nike, created by Drake in 2020.
Nike licenced Abel Reels to produce a collaborative NOCTA branded fly fishing reel modelled on its popular Abel Vaya series. Drake and his fishing friends have some of the NOCTA/Abel reels, but Nike has licenced the maker to sell just 100 of them direct to consumers, which are available with NOCTA branded Abel Nippers for $2,500.
Promoted as the NOCTA Fly Fishing Experience, the company rented a whole parking lot for the promotion which took the form of a temporary forest refuge surrounded by trees and centred by an outdoor casting pond. The event had a light show akin to an NYC night club with DJs spinning music from the likes of Drake and Nicki Minaj.
Host for the evening casting competition was Eeland Tribling, a fly fishing guide and stand-up comedian from Denver, Colarado.
