Dick’s announces major expansion in House of Sport stores

Share

Dick’s Sporting Goods plans to open between 75 and 100 House of Sport stores in the next four years.

The 850-store retailer, which has around 10% of the US fishing retail market, has already opened nine of the new experiential format stores this year and will add another 11 in the next two years.

The first House of Sport opened in Victor, New York in April 2021, combining retail shopping with the opportunity to try products and sports. The stores have a 100,000 square foot-plus footprint and some incorporate playing fields.

“Customer feedback has been so positive and the communities see the stores as a destination,” said Toni Roeller, Senior VP In-store Environment and Visual Merchandising.

Speaking after the Dick’s second quarter announcement last week, Executive Chairman Ed Stack said the company’s new House of Sport concept was ‘yielding powerful results.’

“We haven’t seen growth opportunities like these since we went public in the early 2000s,” he added.

Locations of the nine new Dick’s House of Sport stores opened during July and August this year are: The Shops at Park, Katy, Texas; Baybrook Mall, Friendswood, Texas; Davenport Commons, Davenport, Iowa; Market Place Shopping Center, Champaign, Illinois; Greenbrier Square, Chesapeake, Virginia; Freedom Town, Fayetteville, North Carolina; Latham Farms, Latham, New York; Viewmont Mall, Scranton, Pennsylvania and Oakdale Commons, Johnson City, New York.
