Fishing delivered the strongest category growth for the Australian-based Super Retail Group’s outdoor leisure chain in the company’s financial year just ended.
The business, which reported record annual group sales of $3.8 billion (up 9%), saw its revenue from fishing tackle sales increase 10% compared to the previous year at the BCF (Boating, Camping Fishing) outlets.
Following improved sales momentum in the second half of the year, BCF also enjoyed record sales for the 12 months ended July 1st, 2023. BCF opened 11 stores during the year and closed one to finish the period with 157 outlets, including two superstores in Townsville and Kawana.
Total sales for BCF increased one per cent to $840m with online revenue of $94m, representing 11% of total sales.
Super Retail Group also announced that it has signed a long-term lease agreement for the construction and leasing of a new 65,000sqm distribution centre at Truganina, Victoria.
It is scheduled to open in the first half of the current financial year and will replace the group’s current centres in Altona and Marshall Court.
Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Anthony Heraghty told investors: “I am pleased to announce that the group has delivered a strong set of financial results with another year of record sales and improved profitability.
“Ongoing investment in the group’s store network through new openings, refurbishments and the roll-out of new formats was a key driver of revenue growth. The group’s financial performance was also underpinned by the addition of more than ten million active club members across the loyalty programmes, representing 73% of sales.”
