EFTTEX launches video competition to reach anglers – and you could be next


EFTTEX is reaching thousands of anglers online with its new ‘Fishing in Europe’ video competition, and your brand could be the next to take advantage of the format to promote your new products.

That’s because EFTTEX has teamed up with Tacklestream, the B2C platform from Angling International that specialises in online competitions and giveaways.

Tacklestream’s latest addition is a video competition website that allows brands to ‘host’ a competition while leaving the Tacklestream team to manage the running of the competition, including all uploads from entrants and the online voting to find a winner.

Online promotions are carried out jointly so that the brand reaches its core audience of followers while at the same time extending its reach by being promoted to Tacklestream’s email database of prize-loving anglers.

“That‘s exactly what EFTTEX is doing with us right now,” says Rob Carter, the owner of Angling International and Tacklestream. “We have created a website with EFTTEX branding and with a competition that connects EFTTEX with anglers in Europe, which was the core objective of the campaign. EFTTEX is asking anglers to enter videos that celebrate their best catches, favourite European brands or favourite places to fish – the moments on the water that encapsulate what it means to be an angler in Europe.

“On behalf of EFTTEX, the Tacklestream team are verifying the videos entered into the competition, presenting them on the website and managing the online voting. EFTTEX is organising the prize package and the announcement of the winning video at its show in Budapest next month.

“You can see how this can work for any tackle brand. With the minimum of work, you can have a fun and engaging competition for your online followers that causes them to interact with your brand in a meaningful way – getting out on the water and making videos using your products. It’s also in their interest to share their video to friends to secure votes – which means even more awareness for your brand.

“Basically, you are getting a pop-up, fully branded website and a month of online marketing and brand engagement for a small fee and an attractive prize-pot of new tackle for the winner.”

The EFTTEX Fishing in Europe video competition is open to all anglers in Europe. Voting is open to any visitors to the competition website, where all the videos will be on display, and entrants will be able to share direct links to encourage their friends and followers to support them.

The 15 top voted videos will then be judged by a panel of industry experts at EFTTEX with a top prize for the winner of €3000. All voters will also be entered into a prize draw to win €1000 of fishing tackle. Selected videos uploaded to the website will also be shown as a rolling montage on screens during EFTTEX.

“We want EFTTEX to be the place where we celebrate fishing in Europe,” said Istvan Pál, part of the organising team for the show. “It has to have a buzz and an energy to make it more of an attractive proposition for people in the trade each year. The film montage and prize ceremony will do that.”

But the Fishing in Europe video competition also does something else, which is even more important, says Pál. It spreads the EFTTEX brand name to consumers. “We know our exhibitors want to reach consumers when they present new products at the show. Yes, in the hall EFTTEX remains a B2B meeting event, but gone are the days when that is all that we should be achieving for our customers.

“The Fishing in Europe video competition is part of our strategy to get the EFTTEX name known amongst anglers. That needs to happen first before we are a true platform for reaching consumers. Right now, EFTTEX means nothing to anglers, which means even winning an EFTTEX award does not translate into sales like it should.

“We are taking steps to change that. First, we launched the Angler’s Choice awards which gave anglers a chance to vote on the EFTTEX Best New Product award winners. That was probably the first time many anglers had even heard of EFTTEX, so it was an important first step. And now we are giving anglers the chance to celebrate what they love about fishing in Europe.

“This video competition will create a feelgood factor around EFTTEX amongst consumers. Any brand that launches products here in the future or, even better, wins a New Product Award will be able to feed off that. That is what we are striving for.”
