Share

The 18th Experience the World of Fly Fishing (EWF) – the largest show of its kind on mainland Europe –  attracted nearly 2,600 visitors.

Attendees came from all over Europe and enjoyed the numerous stands, extensive fly casting programmes, special activities for women and children – including fly casting and fly tying – and demonstrations in fly tying by over 45 well-known tiers.

The programme for the women included a presentation on the history of fly fishing by women up to the present time and 30 minute workshops for newcomers and advanced female fly casters.

Other presentations dealt with new developments in fly line production by Scientific Anglers, the problems with pink salmon in many Norwegian rivers and numerous new fly fishing destinations across the world.

Among the well-known fly casters who gave demonstrations at the outside pool and along the Amper Canal were Jan Kubala, Erhard Loidl and Wolfgang Pijawetz from Austria, Arve Evensen (Norway), Christopher Rownes and Paolo Rezzonico (Switzerland), René Gerken (Denmark), Mike McFarland (USA), William Peake and Tom Brown (Scotland), Katka Švagrová (Czech Republic) and Paddy McDonnell (Ireland). They performed under the expert guidance of Jürgen Friesenhahn.

Another highlight was the Tenkara Village which featured guests from Japan and the USA. There were also, for the first time, demonstrations in Tenkara fishing at the fly casting pool. By selling donated products, a record amount of money was again gathered for the Children’s Hospital in Munich.

The next Experience the World of Fly Fishing will be held on April 13 and 14, 2024.
