Dick’s acquisition reaffirms commitment to outdoors

Share

Dick’s Sporting Goods is to acquire outdoor retailer Moosejaw from Walmart in a deal expected to close next month.

The 785-store retailer – which has launched seven flagship Public Lands stores since 2021 – says the move reaffirms its commitment to long-term business in the multi billion-dollar outdoor category.

Moosejaw, founded in 1992, was purchased by Walmart for $51m in 2017. It has stores in Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan and Missouri, as well as an e-commerce platform. Moosejaw’s CEO, Eoin Comerford, will report to Dick’s Public Lands President Todd Spaletto.

“We admire what Moosejaw has accomplished over the past 30 years as a leader in the outdoor industry and look forward to the opportunity to share insights and learn from one another,” said Spaletto.

“We believe there’s potential to grow the Moosejaw business and provide compelling experiences and an expanded product assortment to its millions of loyal customers.”

Dick’s is estimated to have around 10% of the US fishing retail market.
