A major Japanese fishing tackle supplier has set up a European distribution hub as part of its plan to increase its sales presence in the region.
Major Craft has opened an office and warehouse in the Spanish capital of Madrid and announced plans to initially develop lures, rods and reels specifically for the European market.
Koichiro Hamano, Major Craft Overseas Division Manager, told Angling International that the company is planning to introduce its first Ceana-branded reel and hardbaits at the beginning of next month. Rods are expected to follow in April or May.
“There are a variety of fish that are the main target for the European market and many of them are common to all countries. Major Craft believes that the European market is the area where we should intensify development.”
Major Craft already has a significant presence in Europe, most notably in the UK, Spain and France, alongside markets in China, South Korea, Singapore and the US. It has set up its European base to better serve the market. Hamano explained: “Many companies do not have presence in Europe. As a result, distributors face increased shipping costs and lengthy delays in receiving product.
Added Hamano: “We believe that by having a presence there we are better placed to serve the marketplace. We have stock in Spain and are able to deliver within days of order. We also have our own rod factory in Vietnam which means it is easier to control the quality and delivery than many of competitors.”
