England footballing greats Paul Gascoigne and David Seaman star in a new video for UK retailer Fishing Republic.
The pair, who amassed 132 international caps between them, are filmed competing at Oxfordshire’s Linear Fisheries to see who can catch the most carp in a day.
With celebrity angler and former Korda marketing head Ali Hamidi on hand to coach the less experienced Gascoigne, both men enjoy a bumper session with fish running into double figures.
They also find time to reminisce about their time with England, including the Italia ’90 World Cup and Euro ’96, when the Football’s Coming Home anthem brought the nation together.
Seaman is an ambassador for Fishing Republic, which has more than 60 stand-alone and concession stores within GO Outdoors shops across the country, as well as operating online.
The former goalkeeper, nicknamed ‘Safe Hands’, made more than 1,000 club appearances, most of them for Arsenal, during his 23-year career. He also won 75 caps for England, making him his country’s second most capped goalkeeper, and was awarded the OBE in 1997.
“As soon as I saw the agency’s idea I thought ‘yes, this is going to be fantastic,’ said Seaman. “Gazza has a heart of gold and the campaign gives viewers the chance to see him doing something he really loves. Fishing has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember, so to share that with Gazza, Ali and Fishing Republic was special.”
Gazza, as Gascoigne is affectionately known, played mainly for Newcastle, Spurs, Lazio and Rangers, clocking up almost 400 club appearances and scoring 83 goals. He was capped 57 times and is considered the most naturally talented English footballer of his generation.

Graham Drury, partner at the firm’s production company, said: “The team at Fishing Republic think fishing is unbeatable. The idea is to demonstrate this by showing the physical, mental and social benefits fishing brings. David, Gazza and Ali were completely natural together and simply enjoyed doing something they love. The chemistry and camaraderie was great to see and was all captured on film.”
