Share

Shimano and its brands, G. Loomis and PowerPro, were responsible for over 60% of the International Game Fish Association-recognised (IGFA) world record fish caught in 2021.

IGFA registered 422 new records in its World Record Game Fishes Book across 28 countries last year with Shimano and its brands playing a part in 262 of them.

Shimano reels helped anglers set 102 IGFA saltwater records with the most notable being a 711lb black marlin caught by Lily Simms using a Shimano Tiagra T11130A reel (pictured) caught off Cains, Australia in October.

Its rods also set 42 IGFA records in the saltwater rod category with G. Loomis enjoying success with eight saltwater tippet class records. The two brands combined to help anglers set 20 additional bests, making them responsible for 70 new IGFA records last year.

PowerPro braided lines refused to be outdone by its Shimano counterparts and was responsible for 30 records across the salt and freshwater spectrums.
