Honour for long-serving Berkley fish scientist

Share

Long-serving Berkley fish scientist John Prochnow has been inducted into the 2022 class of the US Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame.

Prochnow has had an impact on fishing worldwide during 36 years spent designing lures for the Pure Fishing brand. He received his award at a press conference during the ICAST trade show in Orlando last month.

As Research and Development Team lead for Berkley, Prochnow was one of the inventors of Berkley PowerBait, Berkley Gulp! and Berkley MaxScent and holds multiple patents for fishing attractant delivery systems for baits and lures.

He competed in the professional walleye tour, has worked with many top anglers past and present and, in 2008, was in Outdoor Life’s ‘20 Most Influential in Hunting and Fishing’ list.

In addition, he has helped in the development and scale-up of multi-million dollar manufacturing processes and research facilities to produce and study fishing baits and lures, including a full-scale carp bait facility in Holland.

As well as his contribution to fishing, Prochnow has given his time and knowledge to Ducks Unlimited, the Coastal Conservation Association, the Boy Scouts and various youth fishing events.
