American Tackle will arrive at ICAST with a combo that not only changes the game in the youth market, but also helps promote awareness of autism in children.
The award-winning maker of the MicroWave Guide System has partnered with Autism Anglers to build the first performance-based youth fishing combo. To be launched at ICAST, the combo is the result of a collaboration between Autism Anglers founder Don Morse, a member of the American Tackle sales team, and the Florida-based company.
Morse, a custom rod builder for more than 27 years and industry expert who has worked with industry leaders on components and design, founded Autism Anglers in 2018 after his son was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Its mission is the bring awareness and acceptance of the condition through education. “Our goal is to educate a large percentage of the population – anglers – about autism and use fishing as a calming therapy for those on the autism spectrum,” said Morse.
Every purchase of the combo will benefit Autism Anglers directly and help hundreds of families. Morse added: “I am pleased about both the rod and partnership with American Tackle. I have always looked forward to being able to benefit those with autism but also to help promote family bonding through the industry I love.”
American Tackle Marketing Manager Kevin Landers said: “American Tackle has led the industry to focus more on performance, and we want to do that for youth fishing. The sector is in need of a step forward in design. The industry has always seen these as simple rods that are all usually the same with some different stickers. This design brings performance to the youth fishing market.”
