Bass Pro Shops’ trucker caps join ‘most wanted’ list

Share

Fishing tackle shortages have been commonplace after two years of supply chain disruption caused by the COVID pandemic, but who would have thought that a $6 hat would join the ‘most wanted’ list.

That is just what has happened in the US, where demand for Bass Pro Shops’ trucker caps is so high that stocks are running low. The story even made the pages of the Wall Street Journal, which reported that consumers were turning to eBay and TikTok because of a lack of colour options at Bass Pro Shops and its sister retailer, Cabela’s.

The caps are usually available in a wide range of colours, but the store’s website is offering just four options – and those are in limited quantities. And even at reseller prices of up to $17 each, some colours are still unavailable.

It’s not just anglers who are trying to get their hands on the low-cost lids. The snap-back mesh caps have enjoyed a surge in popularity in mainstream markets, with people from all walks of life sporting their favourite colours.

“We’ve had a kind of run on our trucker caps,” Bass Pro’s Chief Customer Officer, John Paul Morris, told the Journal.

But despite the run on the highly popular hats, Bass Pro isn’t letting success go to its head by increasing prices. “They are a great marketing tool and we loving seeing our customers out there wearing them,” added Morris.
