ASA strengthens Government Affairs team

The American Sportfishing Association (ASA) has strengthened its Government Affairs team with the appointment of a Southeast Fisheries Policy Director.

Martha Guyas is an expert in Florida’s marine fisheries management and policy development and most recently worked for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

“The ASA’s vision to create the Keep Florida Fishing programme in 2015 has greatly increased our involvement and influence in the southeast region, resulting in policy outcomes that benefit fishing access and conservation,” said Mike Leonard, ASA’s Vice President of Government Affairs. “Martha has the ideal experience and expertise to help us build upon our successes and address the many ongoing challenges.”

Guyas, who is based in Florida’s state capital, Tallahassee, said: “I want to do my part to help ensure that anglers and boaters have well managed fisheries and access to our public waters now and in the future.”

At the FWC, Guyas and her team made recommendations for federal marine fisheries management issues affecting Florida. She also represented Florida on the Gulf of Mexico Management Council, where she was Vice Chair, before joining the ASA.
