Catch Co expands into fly fishing with acquisition

Share

Catch Co, the fishing brand and e-commerce platform, has expanded into fly fishing with the acquisition of Recur Outdoors, a start-up business with a diverse mix of offerings.

These include the fly fishing monthly subscription service, Postfly, Wade fly rods, Pelican fly reels and the Badfish saltwater brand. It is Catch Co.’s first acquisition since its launch in 2012.

“I could not be more excited to add Postfly and the entire Recur offering to the Catch Co. ecosystem”, said Ross Gordon, Founder and CEO of Catch Co. “Not only has it built an amazing brand in the growing fly fishing market, but its customer focus and company values are very much aligned with our approach.”

The Recur team, including Founder and President Brian Runnals, will stay in position. “We’ve spent the past eight years building a more welcoming on-ramp for people into fly fishing,” said Runnals. “Catch Co.’s customer centricity and unique brand personality are a natural fit with our company.”

Launched in 2013 in Boston, Recur acquired Badfish in 2019 and has leveraged its following to build a tackle and lifestyle brand targeting the saltwater market.

The purchase of Recur Outdoors marks another milestone for Catch Co., which entered the market in 2012 with its Mystery Tackle Box brand, which is forecast to sell its eight millionth box by the year-end.

It also owns Karl’s Bait and Tackle, a membership-based e-commerce platform, along with a number of other brands including 10,000 Fish, Biospawn, Hard Hat Jigs, Heavy Metal Tungsten and Stickies Hooks.

The Chicago-based business has a social community of more than two million followers and recently built upon its digital heritage by expanding distribution of its own products into third-party retailers nationwide, including Dick’s Sporting Goods and Walmart. Earlier this year it announced a $38 million series B funding round.

Terms of the deal with Recur Outdoors were not disclosed.
