Share

Australia may be in the grip of its severest lockdown, but its leading supplier of fishing tackle continues to go from strength to strength – reporting a record performance for its last financial year.

Super Retail Group reported revenues for the year ended June 26th up 22% to $23.45 billion. The figures were boosted by a 49.1% increase in sales within the Boating, Camping, Fishing (BCF) chain of 142 stores. In its report to investors, Super Retail said that all categories – including fishing – grew strongly, reflecting elevated levels of domestic tourism and leisure activity.

Online sales within BCF grew by 90% to $86m, representing 11% of its sales.

Anthony Heraghty, Group Managing Director and CEO, said: “We are pleased to report a record sales and earnings result for the year, driven by unprecedented consumer demand in our lifestyle and leisure categories. Successful omni-retail execution, investment in our supply chain and focus on inventory management have been key in meeting elevated volumes of demand in both our in-store and online channels.

“In particular the group’s omni-channel retail strategy and digital capability are providing the flexibility to pivot to online channels to meet shifts in consumer behaviour during COVID-19 lockdowns.”
