Jim Donofrio, founder and Executive Director of the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) in the US, is to retire.
He began the organisation in 1996 and is credited with creating the first IRS-recognised political action body dedicated to the needs of saltwater anglers, the industry and marine resources.
An RFA announcement said that his vision to provide a political voice at state and national levels was unique to the legislative and regulatory process governing recreational fisheries and anglers.
Donofrio (72) is a former fishing boat captain and that experience helped him understand how legislation affected anglers, business owners, manufacturers and retailers and he formed working relationships with members of Congress on both sides.
“No one has fought harder for the rights of the saltwater angler,” said Viking Yacht Co. President and CEO, Pat Healey. “Jim has been an incredible asset for us. The RFA wouldn’t be what it is today without him.”
