Why Abu Garcia’s re-engineered Max range is perfectly timed

Rod and reel combos are all the rage in the US as anglers dipping into the sport for the first time make these competitively-priced packages their set-up of choice.

Abu Garcia’s reengineering of its Max range seems perfectly timed. The brand’s new Max Pro, STX and X low profile baitcasters and combos are pitched at attainable price points while retaining that Abu Garcia quality. Features include a custom-designed reel seat with polymer comfort grip, seven steel ball bearings, a machined, double anodised aluminium spool that provides strength without adding weight and a 24-ton graphite construction for extreme sensitivity.

The three models also include a power disk drag system, MagTrax braking and graphite frame and side plates. Rods are available in 7ft or 6ft 6ins lengths and in medium or medium heavy.
