Italian fishermen celebrate World Environment Day with seabed clean-up

Share

Members of FIPSAS – the representative body for anglers in Italy – spent World Environment Day improving the country’s marine eco-systems.

They took part in a clean-up of the seabed in some of Italy’s most beautiful locations. “This year’s initiative – Pulifondali – is based on the restoration of the eco-systems,” explained Professor Ugo Claudio Matteoli (below), President of FIPSA, who took part in a clean-up event at Conca dei Marini, on the Amalfi Coast in collaboration with Assonautica Pescara.

“The conservation of the environment and its health are among the cornerstones of our Federation, which has always been attentive to watercourse eco-systems,” added Matteoli.

Working alongside the local municipalities, members of FIPSAS collected the waste and ensured its safe disposal thanks to the commitment of companies that take care of safe debris disposal. “This is the perfect circle that is capable of reviving the marine eco-system while also triggering a mechanism that allows waste to be disposed of in the correct manner. It sends out a strong signal that we are committed to environmental education,” added Matteoli.
