For more than a century Robert Glardon SA has been a household name in the fishing tackle industry in Switzerland. The company was founded in 1916 by Robert Glardon who took over a hardware and fishing goods business from his father – laying the foundations for what has become the country’s leading wholesaler of fishing tackle.

The company’s Hans Flury told Angling International: “We still produce some traditional and specialised items in Switzerland in our factory situated in Thun, in the Bern region of the country. Initially we were distributors for many major brands, including Abu Garcia, Savage Gear, Okuma, Berkley and Flambeau, but for some years now our focus has been on completing our range with sourced items – like rods, reels, hard and soft baits and terminal tackle. These are developed in Switzerland, but produced in Asia.

“We have a very keen and passionate team that is developing great items alongside our reliable partners. Our main goal is to have the very best quality items for our customers.”

The company’s main sales come from within its home country, although it has a distribution partner in Austria and direct sales to dealers in France, Italy and Germany. Its Swiss-made lures are also distributed in the US and Canada. Adds Flury: “We are extremely successful with all our tackle in Switzerland and have reached a stage where we are keen to enlarge our customer base to include other countries across Europe. Our rods and lures should be of particular interest to dealers looking for good-selling products.
